A certain word comes to mind when we think about famous brands (Starbucks - coffee, BMW - nice cars, Five Guys - burgers). The same is true for Care Group, a certain word comes to mind. The CG "one word" however can be different depending on who we ask! We discussed what the CG "one word" is so the same thing comes to mind when we hear the word Care Group.
Below is the material we discussed during our first meeting, 6/20/2015.
Session 1 - The One Thing
Matthew 22
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’38 This is the first and greatest commandment.39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
CG “one word” is Relational.
CG Mission statement
Creating a community where people can have a growing authentic relationship with Jesus and one another.
What we want for people who come to CG is for them to grow:
1. In their intimacy with God.
a. To know God as Heavenly Father, to know that God can be trusted.
b. Demonstrate how God wants something for them and not something from them. God is for us, not against us.
2. In their relationship with one another.
a. To encourage, support, love one another within our community.
b. To influence people outside of our community to be interested in joining our community.
Practical things:
1. We cannot use a verse to hate somebody.
2. Instead we are to influence outsiders by how we live our lives. By being salt and light.
Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
3. Relationship before influence.
“Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.”
As CG leaders/activists we are:
1. to lead people in a growing relationship with Jesus and
2. to create a community that is so attractive that people in the inside wants to stay inside, and people on the outside wants to join.
Below are points we discussed during this first session:
1. "CG is relational" is something that people, even non-believers, can relate too.
2. Materials are not necessarily only for leaders but all CG members can participate to make CG a better place.
3. We are encourage to speak up if we have any suggestions to improve CG experience.
4. In certain context, God does require something from us. For example: obedience, our heart, dedication.
